A
typical jiu-jitsu class will begin with a series of warm
ups. Directly following warm ups the instructor will work
with the class and demonstrate a series of moves which
he/she has chosen for that class. It may consist of a
series of submissions or counters against submissions.
It may also consist of a series of sweeps or reversals
and/or take downs which play a crucial part of jiu-jitsu.
At the end of each class, the participant’s can
expect to engage in a vigorous work out which is often
referred to as “rolling”. Rolling is an important
part of jiu-jitsu, because it puts into play the actual
moves one may have just learned during regular class drills,
and puts them in an actual grappling situation. All grappling
is done in a controlled manner to help prevent injuries,
but insures the participants an incredible workout which
they cannot wait to engage in again.
