In
1999, Steve became a police officer in a local suburban
police department. He has been into physical fitness his
entire life and still spends much of his time weightlifting
and running. It was in his first few months as a rookie
officer that he realized it was the perfect time to get
involved in martial arts. He knew that the defensive tactics
taught in the police academy just weren’t enough,
especially for a smaller person. He also wanted the personal
challenge and the self-confidence that the martial arts
provide. He found that Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was the most
realistic and toughest martial art out there.
Steve trained for 2 years before receiving his blue belt from Renzo
Gracie in 2001. After training for about 5 years, Steve began teaching
Jiu-Jitsu. In 2005, he received his purple belt from Renzo and he
continues to train under Brian Miller.
Steve believes that Jiu-Jitsu is the best martial art for law enforcement
officers because it is practical and extremely effective. To new
students and police officers alike, Steve has this message… “You
don’t have to be the next MMA superstar to know some of the
basic techniques that can save your life on the street.” |
